There has to be a balance of give and take. It is VITAL, this balance. Sometimes this balance is felt, sometimes it is counted. But every relationship depends on this balance between give and take.
It is the most common, yet the most difficult relationship that we humans know of, this relationship between male and female. Men think differently than women. Men often think in terms of numbers, in terms of score, in terms of separate pieces. That men compare each other in competion through 'points', best seen in sports, underscores this point.
Women, on the other hand, count less and feel more. Women look at the overall picture. Quality, not (as much) quantity. How do you quantify the texture of a sauce? You don't. You qualify it.
Yet this difference in thinking need not bring man and woman apart, as it has for centuries. Indeed, if anything, it must bring them together, for they are complements, designed to work together. Each specializes in the use of the half of the brain that the other doesn't use as much, and together (given the necessary effort to communicate), each will learn much about the other, and of themselves - that is, of their own untapped nature. For both are an expression of the whole that is their true self. And only together can they learn what the whole is, for each reveals to the other their hidden half. Far too often, the half that they don't want to see.
Each will stimulate the other in the use of the undertapped half of their brain, and more importantly, to use both sides of the brain together, in synchrony and balance. Here is where the magic begins. For it is here, where quantity and quality work together for the greater good, that humanity is at its best. It is here where humanity CREATES! It is here that man and woman are revealed to be the two sides of the creator. And indeed, this is reflected in the fact that only together can man and woman create new life.
This does not mean however that the creative energies do not exist in each and every one, or that nobody can create alone. Indeed, it is the height of mastery to bring together in one body both sides of the creative equation, and have both heart and mind in creative synchrony, to create on earth as the creator creates in the heavens. To wield power and harmony, wield passion and responsibility, in equal amounts. Not favoring one over the other. This is balance in one person. And until we achieve that, what better way to learn about those hidden faculties of your mind and heart, and have them work harmoniously together, but to find someone who has those qualities in abundance, and have a working relationship with them? To try to emulate them, understand them, cooperate with them, compromise with them (not to them), and create something beautiful with them. Until the time comes that there is nothing you can learn from each other anymore. Then you move on.
